Benefits of a Sprinkler System

Fire sprinkler systems are highly effective at controlling the spread of a fire and limiting the damage to people and property. It is estimated that the installation of a sprinkler system can reduce the damage to property in the event of a fire by at least80%.

SprinklersFire sprinkler systems save lives. By isolating the source of the fire, controlling its spread and limiting the production of heat, smoke and fumes, sprinkler systems give people more time and opportunity to escape. Sprinklers are of special value in properties such as Residential Care Homes with elderly or infirm inhabitants, and in multi-floor premises where escape routes may be difficult.

Our Service

SprinklersMonitor Fire can bring you all these benefits by installing a complete Fire Alarm and Sprinkler System to control the spread of fire whilst alerting occupants of the premises to the potential danger. We visit your premises to conduct an initial site survey, free of charge, to assess your specific needs and calculate an accurate quotation.

We then agree a time schedule with you for the complete installation of the system. We liaise with all the relevant authorities on your behalf to ensure full compliance, including:

  • Fire Authority
  • Water Authority
  • Local Council
  • Environmental Housing Authority
  • Architects & Surveyors

SprinklersWe install every system to the very highest standard of quality, both in terms of expert workmanship and in the specification of the materials we use. We install both copper and plastic pipework, whichever is most appropriate for your situation, and we pressure test the pipework at various stages of the installation to ensure all the pipe joints, connections and heads are correctly fitted and meet the relevant British Standards.

Fire & Water Damage

SprinklersAll fires start off small – the benefit of a Sprinkler system is that it immediately isolates and extinguishes the fire at this stage, before it has chance to spread out of control. If a fire triggers your Sprinkler system, only the sprinkler heads in the immediate vicinity of the fire will be activated. In most cases, only one sprinkler head is activated to tackle a fire so the area affected is very small. Even in the case of a large fire the amount of water used by a sprinkler system is vastly less than that used by the Fire Brigade; residential fire sprinklers typically give out 10-15 gallons of water a minute, compared to a fire hose that pumps at 250 - 500 gallons a minute.

How the system works

Each of the sprinkler heads contains a heat-sensitive mechanism. At a pre-determined temperature (usually 68°C), this releases a plug and allows water to escape. A diffuser then breaks the water into droplets of a specific size and directs the spray over a chosen area of the floor and walls.

A flow switch is hard wired to a control panel so that when the water flows it sends a signal to the panel, activating the alarm and closing the domestic water supply. The panel is mains-fed and has a battery back up with 24 hours’ standby power. The cabling is flameproof and the panel can be adapted to incorporate smoke and heat detectors, alarms, door closers and break-glass contacts.
